The story is telling about „the blindness of anger“. The eye of the green square-god symbolizes the omniscient eye. Only he can see. The Humans are blind - they are an kopie of their square creator. The square-god represents mistakes, if something has corners and edges, it menas that it is not free of errors or it is not perfect - like our humanity. When the monster loses his gift to see, he is literally blindfolded and acts like a human being - influenced by his emotions.
